Snow! Well, just a little.

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Just a weather update today – we’ve had the first snow of the season that’s actually stuck, although it’s a bit of a pitiful amount. Here’s a snapshot from my drive to work, some people protesting something or other in the background on a street corner.

Pitiful snow in Vancouver

It was rather cool in Gastown this evening though, the snow was starting to come down and you could check it out in the lights, with this shot being near the waterfront station, that’s the north shore you can only faintly see in the background.

They’re forecasting 6″ overnight, but I’m doubtful…

Sunset drive

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

It’s starting to get cold over here! Since the cloud and rain disappeared a week or two ago, the temps have dropped and we’ve had down to -5 or so over the last couple of days.

I love it though!

We’ve had glorious blue skies, and when you can get in the sun it feels great. Of course, you’re all bundled up against the cold, but if you can get into a nice coffee shop, tuck in with your choice of hot drink, sit in the sun for a bit and just hang out, it’s great :)

We’ve been getting some pretty good sunrises and sunsets too (as I shared a few posts ago), but I thought I’d post a couple of snaps from my drive home from Richmond (kinda in the sticks) to downtown. Here’s crossing the Oak st bridge between Richmond and Vancouver proper… I like this one as it show you the mountains which are ever present in Vancouver – you can always tell which way is north if you can see one of the mountains!

This one is a particularly average one from when coming across the Granville st bridge into town, but it gives you some idea as to how fantastic the sun reflecting off the buildings looks, plus you get a little peek at the mountains in the background again as well. One day I’ll get out with the SLR and capture it, but it’s getting dark at around 4pm now, so it’s rare that I’m actually driving home and get to see the sunset :(

Breakfast meeting

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

So, I had a breakfast meeting over in English Bay this morning, and the sunrise on the way over there (about a 5 drive) was awesome. I had thought that I’d snap a couple of pictures of the sunrise and English Bay at that time of day with the frost still sitting on the logs, and also link you to an article by Jeremy Clarkson written about how he felt all important because he’d just attended his first ever breakfast meeting… however, the pics turned out a bit average, and I can’t find the post by Mr. Clarkson. And breakfast meetings aren’t all they’re cracked up to be either.

Still, here’s some pics of that area in the morning. Sunrise looking back towards Burrard St bridge:

Looking west along English Bay – if you squint, you can probably make out some of the ever present container ships in the bay, and also snow on the distant peaks.

Actually, at this resolution, the pics don’t look that bad… I’ll have to remember that ;)

  • About VanAussie Daily

This is a blog written by an Australian currently living in Vancouver, Canada. Intended to show some of the cool and different things about living in Vancouver, it focuses on things you can do around and with reach of Van, the weather, small and big differences, and whatever else I feel like talking about.

Update: This blog is now not-so-daily following the birth of our twins on 13 weeks early on May 20, so my writing time is both shortened and divided between this blog and one updating folks on their progress. Feel free to check it out if you want :)
